SPEAK India’s Health Conclave cum biennial award function to be held shortly at Chandigarh

Tentative concept note

It is proposed to hold SPEAK India Health conclave cum Awards function on 24th Feb 2019 at Chandigarh. Top doctors, working ethically in different specialties from all over the countries will be invited. They will be asked to speak on the occasion so as to lay down protocols for clinical tests and surgical interventions. Essentially this is planned to be an academic activity in the field of medical and health education, in collaboration with and at PGIMER. While the cost of mementos, gifts, catering, travel cost of the visiting out-station medical scientists and other miscellaneous expenses will be borne by SPEAK India, PGI will provide the infrastructure and support of the host viz. LT 1 or another suitable auditorium, Rooms in the guest houses and other consequential support.

Those doctors and hospitals recommended by eminent Board of advisors and selected by the learned jury will be conferred awards of excellence. Gathering of eminent people will be limited to 150 persons. His Excellency the Governor is likely to be the chief guest. Editor in Chief of the Tribune Sh Rajesh Ramachandran has been requested to join as Guest of Honour.

Main Objectives of the conclave

 1) To advise on a protocol for interventions in various specialties so that unethical interventions/investigations can be curtailed and medical treatment made more affordable. This could help to improve AYUSHMAN BHARAT scheme as well. The recommendations will be sent to GOI and the write ups will be published on our website- www.speakforhealthyindia.com / booklet.

2) To honor eminent and ethical doctors/hospitals so as to send a message across the country that we can usher in ‘healthy India’ only if we make medical care ethical and affordable. Another message is that by focusing on wellness the country can reduce the role of doctors and hospitals by 70-80% and that will also end unethical practices. This will also obviate the need to set up more hospitals and train more doctors; thus saving lot of money of the nation.

Aims and Objects of SPEAK India(Society for promotion of Ethical and Affordable health Care)

i) To promote healthy life style among all sections of society ii) To impart medical literacy and health awareness to patients and their families, iii) To set up protocols to avoid un-necessary investigations and interventions iv) To make all out effort to make the services less expensive and affordable through advocacy with the private hospitals v) To hold conclaves, seminars, workshops, press conferences, documentaries, dramas, etc.  to educate the public and doctors about the importance of making healthcare ethical VI) To promote good clinical acumen among doctors to make them competent, compassionate, accessible and empathetic vii) To confer awards of excellence on doctors, hospitals, organizations, institutions etc, who render substantial service in the area of ethical and affordable healthcare. Board of advisers (BOA)

It consists of top 10 doctors from all over the country in various disciplines. The members are -Prof Surinder Jindal (medicine- convener), Prof O.N.Bhakoo ( Paediatrician) Prof N. Khandelwal (Radiology), Prof Arvind Rajwansi (pathology), Prof Rajinder Singh (Surgery), Prof S.K.Sharma ex Director PGI (urology) ,  Prof Randeep Guleria (Director AIIMS), Prof B.M.Hegde padam Bhusan( cardiology-Bangalore),   Prof Mahipal Sachdev (Delhi-ophthalmology),Prof Suneeta Mittal  (Obe &Gyne-Fortis Delhi), and Dr. R.Kumar President SPEAK India

Jury for the awards

SPEAK has constituted a high level jury to select individuals and institutions to confer awards of excellence, out of those nominated by BOA. The jury members are Sh. Ajit Chatha  (former chief secretary Pb Govt), Dr. Jagat Ram (Director PGI), ex-Chief justice Vijender Jain,Prof B.S. Ghuman (vice chancellor Punjabi university Patiala), Sh. Sarvesh Kaushal (ex chief Secretary Pb), A few of eminent persons from other fields are likely to be co-opted by the jury. (DGP Haryana Sh K.P.Singh IPS, past president Rotary International Raja Saboo, Sh Rajesh Ramachandran editor in chief The Tribune and Lt. Gen Dr. Harcharan Singh  have been requested.
